You could spend hours trying to locate all unnecessary or unneeded files on your hard drive so they can be deleted, more so when you are not 100% sure on what you are doing.

Microsoft Windows even comes with Disk Cleanup, an easy to use utility that scans various locations on your hard drive so unwanted files can be deleted.

Although I can’t really flaw Microsoft Disk Cleanup I’ve always felt I needed another piece of software to help clear out even more space. The more software tools we have the better, right?

So what is a good piece of software that can delete temp files?

On this post I am going to discuss a piece of free software called ATF-Cleaner. This has become one of must have file utilities when troubleshooting on PC’s.

ATF-Cleaner is a light application, approximately 50K in size, that when executed it uses very little resources. I always find using a small and light application is useful when troubleshooting on a computer that may have lots of conflicts or is very sluggish to use. Its usually pointless trying to work with large bulky software bundles that wont even work in Windows Safe Mode.

When you open ATF-Cleaner you are faced with a very basic interface that lists file locations that can be deleted. These locations are:

• Windows Temp
• Current User Temp
• All Users Temp
• Cookies
• Temporary Internet Files
• History
• Prefetch
• Java Cache
• Recycle Bin

You simply select the location you wish to delete and click on ‘Empty Selected’ and that’s it! You will find that ATF-Cleaner will free up a good chuck of used space, especially if you haven’t cleared out these location in a while.
