McAfee markets their software by including trial versions on new computers, like my wife’s new netbook. Then they dun you with warnings about it expiring.
If you go to their web site, they charge you top dollar for the full version.
If you buy, like I did, from a third party like Amazon to avoid their “captive audience” prices, you get a CD with NO mention of installing on a netbook — which has NO CD drive.
When you contact McAfee, you get a week’s-long runaround by chat, phone (with foreign speakers) and email. You get advice ranging from “Go to our web site and buy the software [AGAIN] there” to “get a PC that has a CD drive and load the software there.”
When you complain to their executive in charge of Customer Relations, you hear nothing in return.
To repeat, my WORST customer experience in 69 years.
McAfee AntiVirus Plus 3User 2010
I have no idea how well this works as antivirus protection because I still haven’t got it to work. It seemed to install okay, but when I was prompted to enter the validation code, the code didn’t work. I tried three more times, each time uninstalling and reinstalling the software. No luck. So then I went to McAfee’s web page and attempted to get some help. It wasn’t easy to find. They have a utility you can download to check for problems, but when I did, it thought everything was great. So then, after more searching, I found a customer service form. I emailed them a description of my problem. The next day I got an email back saying the problem was a tech support problem, not a customer service issue, and I’d have to contact tech support (there was a link included in the email). I haven’t done that yet, but so far I’ve already put a lot of time into this and it isn’t working.
I Am very pleased with this product, It was not expensive and it is thorough. I didn’t give it 5 stars because it takes a while to do a full scan. But I guess that’s the price you pay for good virus protection.
I purchased and used Mcafee total for my computer. I ended up removing it because it slowed down my computer a great deal. I had it installed one month and a virus got through that customer service claimed it must have already been in there and charged me 85$ to remove. Customer service was terrible. First being half of the people could not speak english clear enough for me to understand. After days of arguing with customer service and going in circles trying to speak to a supervisor in charge. I finally had the virus removed and they did end up refunding my money but the whole experience was terrible. I should have remained with NORTON as my computer ran fine witj NORTON. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.
I have been a fan of Mcafee and would prefere it over Norton any given day. It works.
