DO NOT BUY THIS VIRUS PROTECTION PROGRAM. On April 21 2010 McAfee trashed computers all over the country with a download that replaced a critical XP system file. I spent 6 hours on hold and 30 hours rebuilding my system. The CEO David DeWalt promised a free two-year subscription to affected users. Today, I got a renewal notice from McAfee. What? Customer Service said I had a window from May 10 until May 31 and I missed the deadline. I had called on May 5 and was told they would have a link from the web site but neglected to say it would be a limited time offer. There are many freeware and shareware programs that do a great job.
This product almost brought my PC to a complete hault. It was taking minutes to change screens. I removed the product from my PC after five days. I would never buy this product again.
It is more than just basic antivirus protection and it’s fairly easy to install and get all setup.
I’ve used McAfee for four years now; after using Norton and being constantly frustrated. No comparison-McAfee is great.
I’ve had their full protection since 2004, renewed in 2005 for 2 years & 2007 for 3 years,my subscription was up June 27th. McAfee sent a renewal, 38 % off, same price as 2007, so like a fool I bit. Charged the subscription on Mar 31st, tried to download, which even on my dialup took maybe 15 minutes before. it was a 64,000 KB file which overwrote the old product.
***I have been getting 3 updates weekly & believe this was entirely unnecessary. Took 7 hours, got to the last second & stopped, said there was a problem, well there is. It’s MacAfee, their tech Service is all in India, tried to get an American to be able to understand the process, went on hold & then to dialtone.
Sent 5 emails, got 5 requests for service responses, nothing else. Again the fool, decide to try another download, this took 5 hours, completed, popup said, click on next to proceed, it would remove the old program & re-start the computer to complete the process. All went fine, EXCEPT “no new program” appeared & guess what, my old subscription with 3 months left is gone, leaving me completely unprotected.
The old product worked fine, I’m not a computer geek,BUT since the old downloads worked fine I never had to deal with their SUPPORT ?, which is a joke & it did update 3 times a week so WHY the overwrite. IN MY OPINION, with no one to converse with, explain the problem to this company has,just like many sold out to the cheapest bidder as in India. Probably great people but I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THEM THROUGH THEIR ACCENT. I will go to Walmart or order the product through Amazon, pay a little more (per Year) as I’ll have to update & don’t know if they will do that unless purchased online. JUST MY OPINION.
