Total Protection? Maybe so. Total pain in the backside, too, Once installed, this is pretty good; worthy of 3 or 4 stars, but I’ve spent hours installing, uninstalling, reinstalling with and without help from tech support (who are the best part of the whole experience) trying to get, and keep, this thing running. It’s on a desktop and laptop, and I dread trying to get the third computer protected. I had trouble with last year’s version of Internet Security, but nothing like this. One more failure and I’ll dump the whole thing, eat the cost and go for Norton or some other brand.

I had a little trouble installing this on my Vista machine. The dialogue boxes kept freezing and it took some time to get them to work. Once it was installed, everything worked OK, but I felt that the interface was not as friendly as the Norton 360 I use on my other machine.

As I have had no infections (that I know of) on the machine using McAfee, I have no major complaint, but I prefer the Norton interface and so I will stick with that.

I’m concerned about some of the customer support issues that other reviewers have reported but fortunately I’ve had no reason to call for support, yet.

I love this product because it’s cheap and does it’s job. We haven’t had any problems and I’m loving the value.

  4. Ed Munoz says:

Extremely easy to install, once istalled it does it’s job seamlessly. Love the home network defense lets you know if there are any unauthorized connections on your IP. Instant Site Report lets you know if the sites are safe.

It took me about 6 hrs to install on 1 of my PCs. I needed to contact McAfee on-line help twice. They spent 2+ hrs one night before I told them I needed to get some sleep. Another night they spent another hr, then escalated to their Tier-2 service and it was eventually installed. The problem seemed to be with older versions of McAfee I had used over the years. At one point, after installing Total Protection 2010, it claimed my license had expired in 2008. On the plus side … after it finally was installed on 1 PC, the other 2 installed relatively easily (1 required some minor effort, the other PC installed easily). I purchased this from Buy.com – they then asked me to review the product (same text) and they never posted. I entered my review twice and it they didn’t post it. I contacted them and they just ignored me. My guess is that if they are making a good profit on a product, they don’t like to see negative reviews. I find Amazon fair and unbiased with their reviews.
