Secure Laptops In Storage When Not In Use
If you use a laptop at work but don’t take it home, where exactly do you leave it? Do you simply shut down the notebook and leave it on your desk?
Common sense tells us never to leave valuables insight for an opportunist to take and laptops are no different. Even though we are comfortable in a place of business it really doesn’t mean we are safe from thieves.
Unfortunately a place of business is not always safe from crime and unfortunately a co-worker could be a thief or even a night time cleaner. Thousands of businesses are victims of crime and it’s usually performed by someone on the inside.
So how do secure a laptop inside your business?
Whenever your laptop is not being used for a considerable amount of time i.e. when you are not in the office, then it’s advisable to place the notebook in secure storage. Whether it be in a locked drawer at your desk or a secure storage unit taking it out of sight can help protect the laptop from being stolen.
Employees can’t always be trusted
That’s right, employees or co-workers cannot always be trusted. Thieves are around every corner and we simply find it difficulty to spot an opportunist, especially if they work with us and have built up a level of trust. Unfortunately, this is FACT!
Night time cleaners can have a field day
Another thief at the office could come in the form as the office cleaner because they work in an empty office at night they have all the opportunities to take what they want from your desk. It must be noted, we cannot label every cleaner as a thief, that’s simply unfair to those who are reliable workers and who can be trusted.
Office Robberies can and will happen
Every night an office somewhere gets robbed, even those offices with burglary alarms. The average break-in will last for a couple of minutes, like a typical break- in at a house or a store. Burglars will break-in, grab what they see and leave so this is one reason why securing a laptop away in storage may prevent it from being stolen. If you leave something in sight for a thief to take then they will take it, especially a laptop as they are valuable devices that can be easily sold on.
Office Robbery Caught On Camera
The below video shows a robbery taking place in an office caught on CCTV. Take a watch and see if you can spot the first thing the robbers took from the desk.
Did you see it? That’s right; the laptop was one of the first objects to be stolen. If the laptop had to be secured in storage then there would have been a 50/50 chance it wouldn’t have been stolen.
Of course all this advice on secure storage for laptops isn’t going to prevent all laptops from being stolen but if anything it can help prevent its theft.
You think that’s ridiculous advice?
A lot of people will think the above advice is absurd and that there is no need to place a laptop into secure storage at night. Our response is that if anyone thinks this then you are an easy target for crime, good luck!
